The New Skilled Worker Visa Landscape (2025)
The government of the UK has introduced considerable changes to its immigration policy, which is mostly aimed at increasing the required minimum of the Skilled Worker visa to concentrate on higher-paid and higher-skilled positions.1 The most important words you are to learn are.
- Skilled Worker Visa: This is the main entry point of non-UK citizens to work and reside in the UK on the long-term basis.
- Licensed Sponsor: The UK employer is to have an active Sponsor Licence issued by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).
- Certificate of Sponsorship (Cos): This is an electronic document that the employer gives you and is necessary in your visa application.
- New Threshold Salary: The most important modification. The overall minimum wage rate on new applications has risen to £41,700 per annul (as of July 22, 2025), or the rate of your particular job code–whichever is the higher
UK Visa Sponsorship Jobs (The High-Demand Sectors) Where to Find
All jobs are not eligible to sponsored jobs. Since the salary needs and skills focus is so high, you are advised to narrow down your job-searching efforts to fields with essential skills shortages where employers are willing and able to accept the high cost and compliance cost of being a Licensed Sponsor.

Salary List Advantage (Formerly the SOL) the Immigration Salary List (ISL).
- The Immigration Salary List (ISL) has supplanted the old Shortage Occupation List (SOL): the list includes jobs in which the UK has a particular skills gap.7 Although the concessionary salary rates of the old regime are no longer available, roles in the list have a lower minimum pay of £33,400 (since July 22, 2025) plus reduced visa application fees.
- NLP/Semantic Integration: The most impressive results will be provided by a search using words such as Skilled Worker Eligible Occupation, Sponsorship available, and the positions on the Immigration Salary List (such as Bricklayers or a particular Biological Scientist).
How to Obtain Your Certificate of Sponsorship (Cos) Step by Step
The UK work visa process is two part relay race between you and your prospective employer. You need to be allocated the Certificate of Sponsorship (Cos) by your employer to be able to apply to obtain the visa.10
Action of your part (The Applicant)
- Search Engine: Search engines such as Linked-In, Indeed UK, and Gov.UK should include words such as Licensed to Sponsor, Visa Sponsor, and International Hire, and so on
- Check the Sponsor: Check the UK Government Register of Licensed Sponsors on the GOV.UK site once you have a prospective job. Do not apply to any other company which is not in this list.
- Accept the Offer: Successfully Interview and get officially the job offer indicating the intention to sponsor him/her, the salary specified in the offer must be at least the higher between the £41,700 mark and the usual job rate.
The Action of the Employer (The Licensed Sponsor)
- Apply to the Cos Allocation: The employer has to apply to a Defined Cos to the UKVI using his/her Sponsorship Management System (SMS) as you do not apply in the UK.13
- Grant the Cos: The employer grants the electronic Cos to you once approved (usually within 1 working day) and gives you a unique reference number within which all the important job information is stored: your SOC code, salary, and start date.
- Pay Fees: The employer must by law pay the Sponsor License cost and the Immigration Skills Charge (ISC). They are not allowed to transfer these expenses to you.
Your Visa Application
Application: Within 3 months of the Cos being allocated, use all your supporting documents (passport, English test results, financial evidence) to apply using the unique Cos reference number to the Skilled Worker visa.17
Pay Fees: You will have to pay the main visa application fee, Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) (excluding Health and Care route) and Bio metrics fee.
FAQs
Do I have any chance of being sponsored to any job?
No. The position should be a Skilled Worker Eligible Occupation (RQF Level 6/graduate level) and the wages should be above the threshold (minimum of £41,700 or the prevailing rate, whichever is higher).18 Non-specialized and most hospitality jobs, such as the administrative assistant, cleaner, and others, are usually not eligible.
Does it mean that I earn less working on the ISL?
It does not necessarily imply below the market rate of the job itself, but it implies that the minimum salary that you have to be paid in order to obtain the visa is lower than the general market salary. The minimum presently demanded in terms of the monetary amount of the ISL roles is a minimum of 33400 dollars, as long as they also qualify as full going rate of that particular job.
What should I do in the case that I am in the UK already on another visa?
In case you are already in the UK (e.g. possess a Student or Graduate visa), it uses an Cos and is referred to as switching visas.21 You can apply in the UK as long as you satisfy all the salary and skill criteria.22
